No Focus on the Family Interview Today

This morning I opened my Bible up to Psalm 145, where I read,

I will extol you, my God and King, and bless your name forever and ever.
Every day I will bless you and praise your name forever and ever.
Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised, and his greatness is unsearchable.

Every day I will bless Him — even on days that are disappointing, like today.

Canceled Broadcast, Open Questions

It’s August 18, the day my June 8 interview with Focus on the Family was scheduled for broadcast. They publicized it in their printed mailing last week (see the scanned images). But something has changed.

I don’t pretend to understand the reason completely. They sent me a letter saying that “we’re not going to move forward with the airing. … it doesn’t meet our needs…. Interviews like this can be a bit of a ‘moving target,’ and there are occasions when we must shelve a potential broadcast for a variety of reasons.”

They still expressed “enthusiasm for your book, Critical Conversations.”

I have no reason to think there was any problem with my side of the interview. They had done a pre-interview with me before inviting me, so they knew who I am and what to expect. Everything went well in studio, the feedback I got there was very positive, and weeks after the interview they published the flier with my picture on it.

I have reached out to them with some follow-up questions, and I’m waiting for them to reply.

It’s very disappointing. Still Sara and I have not forgotten: “Every day we will bless the Lord.” For He is good, and He will always do good.

Meanwhile, Better News!

I spent a day on August 8 producing media for the American Family Association, mostly on the topic of Christianity and today’s views on sexuality. One short piece of it is ready for viewing now, the rest is still in production. It should be available through their website in a couple of weeks.

Best of all, we celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary on August 15! We have so much to be thankful for in our marriage. And did you know Cheesecake Factory serves a “30th Anniversary Cheesecake”? We had to order it!

Important — Please Note:

I am sending this information on Focus on the Family because I’ve told many people that I’d be on this broadcast, and I need to update that information with as much as I know about it.

But I don’t want to encourage anyone to speculate on why Focus made this decision. It could only spring from unfounded assumptions and lead to unhelpful rumors, at best. It’s unlikely to help as I continue to communicate with Focus. Thanks for respecting that.
