Classic Blog Posts I have considered these posts to be some of my "classics" or "favorites," either for what I think I succeeded in conveying through them, or as what I believe may be strong contributions to current thought and discussion. (See also my work published elsewhere for others like these.) This post kicked off a series combining two different yet complementary reasons to believe in Jesus Christ: the beauty of Christ and the beauty of his way. The complete series includes:
This is the only piece of fiction I've written for the blog. I wish the same muse would strike more often; it's so fun when it does! I intended this piece to be read as a commentary on Barbara Forrest (see below), Richard Dawkins, Daniel Dennett, and others who see the world as "only natural."
This one came from the middle of a series on problems that arise in ethics for those who deny the reality of God.
Barbara Forrest and Naturalism A three-part series that was re-published by Apollos.ws, a philosophy of religion web site. Barbara Forrest is a prominent atheistic philosopher who has argued for naturalism, the belief that nothing exists but matter and energy and their effects. This is a philosophical response to one of her papers.
Intelligent Design and Religion It has taken several blog posts, over several months, to come up with my position on this difficult issue. ID claims to be a science that is independent of religion. Under careful analysis, this claim is supportable and true, even though many ID theorists have religious motivations and many ideas within ID have religious implications. It's difficult to sustain the distinctions related this, not because they are that complicated philosophically, but because ID enthusiasts and opponents alike have not thought it through adequately. Here is my small contribution to that much-needed effort. |
