Counter-Productive "Witness"

How can some Christians think this is helpful?

This is just sad.

A church has posted a sign very offensive to Muslims--and they've received publicity for it. The pastor is quite sure he's doing the right thing. I don't see it that way.

I think of the Apostle Paul on Mars Hill in Athens (Acts 17:16-34) where so many pagan idols were. He didn't ridicule, he didn't insult, he simply found a point of connection and explained who Jesus was. That's our example.

It's one thing to say we know the truth. It's another thing to be rude. God called us to "speak the truth in love." I know of ministries in the Middle East that are doing that, respecting Muslims' beliefs--not agreeing, but respecting--and winning a hearing. (Actually there are some points of agreement, and those are entry places for the Gospel.) That, by the way, is how we can share with our neighbors, whatever their beliefs.
