Lauren McCain: "God, just let me die then, and let me see your face."

She was one of the shooting victims at Virginia Tech. This video, raw footage of an interview with her a couple months before her death, has now become available. Her explanation of the Christian faith--her own Christian faith--is marvelously clear.

The Newport News Daily Press article on the video says,

"The footage was shot Feb. 22, on a windy day on the Virginia Tech campus, as part of a project by the school's Campus Crusade for Christ to compile videotaped interviews of students discussing their faith. After the shootings on April 16 that left 33 students and faculty members dead, the Crusade chose to post McCain's video on the Internet.

"At one point in the interview, McCain describes a moment at a church camp when she was depressed and asked God to show his face to her:

"'As human beings, we're not going to see his face until we're in Heaven, but I was like, "Oh man, just let me die then, and let me see your face." And he showed me - I could see him.'

"Such comments, David McCain said, have given her family and friends a sense of peace as they deal with her death."

That comment is at about the seven minute point in the interview.

My wife and I met her David and the rest of the family at their church, at the viewing the night before her funeral. Her parents' trust in God is indeed genuine, as we heard from a mutual friend who had spent the entire week with them following the shooting. They made available copies of a letter she had recently written to a friend, in which she spoke of how great it will be to be in heaven--not that she had a premonition or anything, for she also wrote that she thought that would be many years away yet. We were touched and impressed by the family's faith. God's work was obvious in them.
