Macht wrote, "Another way of putting it is that scientific laws tell us all the time about what can't happen (e.g., we know that perpetual motion is impossible because of scientific laws). If we ever discovered scientific laws that implied that, say, living things couldn't arise from non-living things, then the very existence of living things would be evidence of a 'gap' in nature."
