Catching Up On ID Events

I've been out of town for more than half of the last six weeks. Much of that was vacation, and some of it was work time with no time left for blogging. And some of the time I had only dial-up access to the Internet. I'm back home, and (crazy as it probably sounds to some) relaxing on the back porch while reading and writing here. It's good to be back.

First, I want to belatedly express prayers and call on others to pray for my blogger friend Scott Gilbreath, who is having trouble with an eye infection.

And then, there are some interesting new developments in the world of Intelligent Design:

Evolution News and Views writes about "a penetrating piece on how the rationality of science is threatened by the new atheists, such as Richard Dawkins." The post is"UK Columnist Spots Dawkins' Arrogance in Argument against Intelligent Design." (Our friend Dawkins may be recanting on "memes," by the way.)

I'm certainly looking forward to seeing this film on the Sternberg/Smithsonian affair. By the way, the link referenced there contains further background on academic freedom and the lack thereof for ID proponents. Yesterday I was in a meeting of Christian professors at a major southeastern university. They agreed that it's very dangerous to one's career to "come out" as an evangelical Christian before receiving tenure. It's not identical to announcing that one is an ID proponent, but it's closely related. The threat is not imagined. (See also Telic Thoughts' predictions on this film.)

A major mischaracterization of ID gets corrected by (of all people) Eugenie Scott. The connection was made by scordova at Uncommon Descent.
