"Believing Scripture but Playing by Science’s Rules"

The NY Times this morning reported on a creationist writing a Ph.D. dissertation that runs contrary to his beliefs. While I was pondering what to make of it, David Heddle was writing a sensible response:

"No, Ross was not lying. Solving a problem with a model you believe is wrong is not lying. Yes, Ross was going through the motions, but so what? (More on that, anon.) Finally, Ross deserves his Ph.D. every bit as much as PZ deserved his."

You'll want to read the "more of that, anon," to catch the reasons behind David's thinking here.

Later in his post, you'll see some sane, balanced thinking on both the granting of degrees and the granting of faculty positions.
