Is there anything like this anywhere?

Blogging seems to be a totally new form of social discourse, in one very significant aspect.

It's hard to think of any other way that people who generally disagree connect with each other on their disagreements for such an extended period of time. There may be a parallel in some political discourse, but my sense is that most political discussion is disconnection, not connection. We don't always succeed in connecting here, either, but consider our disagreements I think we do fairly well.

I want to invite others to join in the discussion in the comments. There is a fairly regular group of participants who keep up a lively and civil debate; you're welcome to join any time! There's no particular learning curve. Sometimes a comment will refer back to what someone said earlier but you don't need to be aware of that to add to what we're saying.

The last two major topics I've raised here have been among the most difficult. One was theism's problem of evil, and the more current one is homosexuality. I have to be honest, when I've hit the "publish" button on some of these, it's been with a cringe and a prayer. I've known I was asking for trouble! But I appreciate these discussions and the way we can conduct them with honesty, strong challenges, and respect.
